ZON Multimedia has over 1.5 million subscribers, reaching more than 2.8 million homes in Portugal. We have the largest digital cable network in the country (100% of its network operates on a 750Mhz frequency), a digital satellite platform and 213 movie theatres to meet all telecommunication and entertainment needs.
ZON Multimedia is listed on the main Portuguese stock index, PSI-20 index and is the leader of the Pay TV market in Portugal. It is also leader of the cinema market and is the second largest internet provider.
The ZON brand was designed to create a clear, unique image of its services by association with the existing brands TVCABO, NETCABO and LUSOMUNDO, thereby strengthening team spirit between the company’s different business areas.
PT Multimedia was founded in July 1999 as a part of the Portugal Telecom Group. On 7 November 2007, PT Multimedia underwent a friendly spin-off from its parent company which led to a significant change in ownership structure. Prior to the spin-off, on 21 September, the new Executive Management Team was appointed and the organization entered a new phase of development as an independent company.
To mark the birth of our new independent business strategy and identity, on 31 January 2008, our shareholders approved a change of corporate name to ZON (ZON Multimédia – Serviços de Telecomunicações e Multimédia, SGPS, S.A.).
ZON is an affirmation not only of our new corporate strategy, it is primarily a sign of corporate development and growing integration of business areas that enable us to offer more comprehensive, attractive choices to our customers and meet all their telecommunications and entertainment needs.
