International Shipping conference with a strong participation
During the last week of June, Madeira was the stage of an international conference regarding shipping registers, an event that was organized by Neil Stewart & Associates, a well-known company specialized in the preparation of international conferences. Representatives from the EU Commission, the IMO and the MOU of Paris, European and non-European ship-owners, and entities related to the sector presented their perspectives concerning the shipping world.
During the opening remarks of the conference, the President of the Regional Government of Madeira sustained that “the international shipping register of Madeira is an important economic activity for the Autonomous Region because it provides important contributes for its economy through the creation of new jobs and the promotion of the Madeira brand worldwide”. He also said that MAR could attract more ship-owners due to the quality of services and solutions for the shipping community. Francisco Costa, president of S.D.M., entity that is responsible for the promotion of MAR, stressed that a few changes are expected regarding MAR’s legislation, which will confer further advantages to the International Shipping Register, because, he said “ what matters is to reinforce the competitiveness of MAR in the shipping world.
This event was also an opportunity to present the International Shipping Register of Madeira (MAR) and its most recent developments to more than 100 participants, coming from different parts of the world.
According to the chairman of the conference, Mr. Jeremy Smith, the event in Madeira was a “great success” and a worthy opportunity for shipowners to obtain fundamental information to guide their choice of flag.
